HOW NSW CUSTOMERS & BUSINESSES CAN SAVE WITH THE NSW ENERGY SAVINGS SCHEME

What is the Energy Savings Scheme?

The NSW Energy Savings Scheme (ESS) is a government program that provides financial incentives for both households and business to reduce their energy consumption and reduce greenhouse gases. The incentive is provided through Accredited Certificate Providers (ACP’s) when energy saving upgrades are made which generate Energy Savings Certificates (ESC’s). Energy retailers or large energy users purchase then these certificates, which is how the incentive is generated.

How does the program work?

Households and small businesses may be able to benefit from a range of energy efficiency upgrades which includes Upgrading your air conditioner. Unlike rebates, the ESS incentive is provided as upfront discount when obtaining a quotation. You will need to work with business who approved business known as Accredited Certificate Providers (ACP’s) who are able to create the certificates once upgrades are completed.

  • STEP 1: Get multiple quotes from Installers
  • STEP 2: Choose an eligible Air Conditioner that suits your needs
  • STEP 3: Complete the required paperwork from your installer
  • STEP 4: Organise the installation

Full details can be found here: Upgrade your air conditioner | NSW Climate and Energy Action

What is the eligible incentive for Air Conditioners?

Unlike rebates, the ESS incentive is provided as an upfront discount in the quote provided to you for the installation of a new air conditioner.

If you are eligible, incentives could range between:

  • up to $550 if you install a new 6kW air conditioner system
  • up to $560 if you replace an old air conditioner with a 6kW split system.

The discount amount is indicative, and the final costs may vary depending on the installer, the location of the installation, the upgrade product chosen, the design of you home and any fees charged. Check eligible products here: Accepted Products – TESSA Portal
