FDTC Wins Australian Good Design Award

The winners of Australia’s peak international design awards – the highest honour for design and innovation in the country, were announced today during the 2020 Good Design Week. New Zoned Energy Rating Labels for Air-Conditioners

The Australian Government, under the Greenhouse and Energy Minimum Standards (GEMS) Act , have announced that a new Zoned Energy Rating Label (ZERL) will be rolled out across Australia from the 1st of April 2020. While the old labels simply provided a star energy rating for an air conditioner when used in heating or cooling mode, the new air conditioner labels provides more information including the difference in energy efficiency of each model of air conditioner across three climate zones and estimated annual energy consumption of each model within these three zones. This climate zone performance information helps consumers get a better understanding of how efficient an air conditioner would be when installed in their own home and local climate. Globally, 1.4 billion people live in communities that suffer from energy poverty. [1] For these communities their health, education and quality of life is significantly impacted as they are both unable to access and afford basic lighting, cooking and heating. For the young children in these communities, it is often their education that suffers without proper access to lighting at night to complete homework or participate in additional study.
