Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Air-Conditioners Australia (MHIAA) is proud to announce the launch of the KXZ3 Series, the first large-capacity Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) system in Australia to utilise R32 refrigerant for commercial applications.
Engineered with precision, efficiency, and sustainability in mind, the KXZ3 delivers a new generation of commercial cooling and heating solutions – combining advanced environmental responsibility with superior design flexibility, safety profile and performance.
R32 – A Lower GWP Refrigerant for the Future
At the heart of the KXZ3 is the adoption of R32 refrigerant, which offers a significantly lower Global Warming Potential (GWP) compared to predecessor R410A. By using R32, the KXZ3 achieves an approximate 70% reduction in CO₂-equivalent emissions, making it a future-ready choice for commercial projects aiming to reduce emissions and reach top-tier sustainability targets.
As a single component and easy to handle refrigerant, additional benefits of R32 include:
- Zero ozone depletion potential

Wider Design Flexibility
The KXZ3 has been carefully engineered to provide maximum flexibility for architects, engineers, and installers. The exterior design of our KXZ3 units is crafted to seamlessly integrate with surrounding architecture and brandishes one of the smallest footprints in the industry for maximum space efficiency.
- Modular installation: Up to three outdoor units can be combined for a total capacity of 100.5kW.
- Compact footprint: One of the smallest in its class, making it easier to integrate into building designs.
- Extended piping: Maximum vertical separation of 30 metres between indoor units and total length of 160 metres.
- Indoor options: Compatible with MHIAA’s wide range of indoor units, including ducted, cassette, wall-mounted, and ceiling-suspended types.
The superior wider design flexibility of MHI KXZ3 units ensures that the VRF system can adapt to and cater for a diverse portfolio of commercial projects with ease.

Recognising the importance of safety when working with R32 (classified as A2L, mildly flammable) and stringent safety compliance requirements of large commercial and residential projects, the KXZ3 offers a full suite of safety components that can be used to develop highly tailored systems which meet project requirements, including:
